Mandarin essential oil has one of the mildest and most pleasant citrus aromas, making it especially valued in aromatherapy for children and pregnant women. Its sweet, warm scent not only soothes but also uplifts the mood, making it ideal for use throughout the day or as part of evening rituals.

Unlike some other citrus oils, mandarin essential oil is not phototoxic, meaning it doesn’t cause increased skin sensitivity to sunlight. When properly diluted with a carrier oil, it can be safely used even during the day. Its gentle fragrance creates a bright, cozy atmosphere — a fragrant ally when you’re seeking emotional balance and calm.

Description

Mandarin essential oil (Citrus reticulata) is extracted by cold pressing the peel of unripe fruit. Depending on the fruit’s ripeness, three types of oil can be obtained: green, yellow, and red. Yellow mandarin oil, the most used in aromatherapy, offers a balanced blend of sweetness and freshness, making it especially popular with both children and adults.

Its scent is mild, sweet, and citrusy, with a subtle herbal undertone. Thanks to its light, uplifting character, mandarin essential oil is a favourite for home aromatherapy, evening rituals, or simply unwinding after a busy day.

The oil is obtained from the peel by processing fruit residues, making its production sustainable and rooted in the responsible use of natural resources. Around 700–800 kilograms of mandarin peel are required to produce just one kilogram of essential oil — making every drop a concentrated burst of citrus joy.

How to use?

Diffusion:
Diffuse mandarin essential oil in an electric diffuser. The aroma of mandarin is suitable both during the day and at night. Use 6–8 drops during the day and 3–4 drops at night. Mandarin oil is especially beneficial if there is a fussy, restless baby or a hyperactive child at home. Its gentle scent helps balance emotions and promote calm.

Aromatherapy synergies:
Lavender essential oil (3 drops) + mandarin essential oil (5 drops)
Bergamot essential oil (3 drops) + mandarin essential oil (5 drops)
Lavender essential oil (2 drops) + ylang-ylang essential oil (2 drops) + mandarin essential oil (4 drops)

Tips:
For children with a poor appetite, diffuse mandarin essential oil in the dining room or kitchen 15–20 minutes before meals.

At children's birthday parties, mandarin aroma helps restore calm and a cheerful mood.

If you feel discomfort while traveling, inhale mandarin essential oil from an inhaler, directly from the bottle, or apply a drop to a tissue.

Body care:
Tummy massage oil blend: 50 ml sweet almond oil + 10 drops mandarin essential oil.
For a more complex blend, prepare Calm Tummy: 50 ml sweet almond oil + 5 drops lavender essential oil + 5 drops mandarin essential oil + 2 drops chamomile essential oil.

Massage oil suitable for stretch marks: 50 ml camellia oil + 12 drops mandarin essential oil. Apply to damp skin on the abdomen, buttocks, thighs, and breasts twice daily.

Aromatherapy bath: never add essential oils directly to bathwater! They must be diluted. Add mandarin essential oil to a teaspoon of carrier oil (e.g., sweet almond or camellia) before pouring into the bath.

Hand soap: 200 ml unscented liquid soap + 20 drops mandarin essential oil. Mix well and use!

Home care:
Add 10 drops of pure mandarin essential oil to a bucket of water used for cleaning floors and other surfaces. This is especially suitable for households with young children.

Mandarin essential oil dosage by age:

  • 0–3 months: 1–2 drops
  • 3–6 months: 2–3 drops
  • 6–12 months: 2–4 drops
  • 12–36 months: 3–5 drops
  • 4–7 years: 4–6 drops
  • 7–12 years and pregnant women: 5–8 drops

Important!

Mandarin essential oil can increase skin sensitivity to UV rays. Avoid direct sunlight for at least 12 hours after use (unless the skin is covered).

Store mandarin essential oil in a cool, dark place. Improperly stored citrus oils oxidize quickly and lose their properties.
