Fresh, nature-smelling myrtle essential oil is a fragrance that embodies purity, tranquillity, and the bright energy of the Mediterranean Sea. Its gentle yet expressive aroma evokes a walk along sun-warmed mountain paths, among blossoming shrubs — where the air is easy to breathe, and thoughts naturally settle.

This oil is extracted from evergreen myrtle trees growing on the slopes of the Moroccan mountains. Since ancient times, myrtle has been associated with purity, love, and new beginnings — brides were adorned with its branches, and in ancient Greece, it was dedicated to the goddess Aphrodite. It’s no surprise that this light, clean scent continues to inspire and restore inner balance today.

Description

Myrtle essential oil is distilled from Myrtus communis, an evergreen, aromatic shrub native to the Mediterranean region. Since ancient times, myrtle has been regarded as a symbol of purity, renewal, and love. It adorned celebrations, accompanied rituals, and was cherished not only for its graceful appearance but also for its fresh, clean scent.

The oil is obtained through gentle steam distillation of the plant’s leaves and twigs. There are two main types: green myrtle essential oil — primarily from Corsica — contains more α-pinene and has a milder, cleaner aroma; while red myrtle, more common in Morocco, is richer in 1,8-cineole and has a stronger, slightly more angular scent.

Interestingly, in the 16th century, myrtle extract was one of the key ingredients in the famed “angel water”, a cosmetic lotion used to tone and cleanse the face. This tradition reflects myrtle’s long-standing association with cleanliness and both external and internal balance.

Myrtle essential oil remains one of the most subtle yet powerful tools in aromatherapy — especially valued when you want to breathe more freely, think more clearly, or simply enjoy the purity of the air around you.

How to use?

Diffusion:
Diffuse myrtle essential oil using an electric diffuser. During the day, add 6–8 drops of essential oil to the diffuser; at night, use 3–4 drops. This effectively purifies and fragrances the air. Use it at home, in the office, or in the car — the scent of myrtle is very pleasant and generally well-liked.

Body care:
Make a body oil. Add 3–4 drops of myrtle essential oil to a teaspoon of carrier oil (e.g., sweet almond oil) and massage it into the chest and back twice a day. Suitable for children from 2 years of age and the whole family. Please note that we do not recommend using oil-based products when running a fever.

Create a wonderfully scented soap! Add 20 drops of myrtle essential oil to 200 ml of unscented liquid soap. Shake the bottle to mix the oils and soap well. Enjoy!

For oily, flaky hair, add 1–2 drops of pure myrtle essential oil to the amount of shampoo needed for one wash.

For those with dilated facial capillaries, very oily or acne-prone facial or body skin, or enlarged pores, add myrtle oil to a facial cleanser or unscented shower gel. We recommend adding essential oils to a single-use amount, as adding them to the entire container can alter the product's consistency over time.

Prepare an exceptionally fragrant, warming aromatherapy bath with myrtle essential oil. Do not bathe if you have a fever! Baths with myrtle essential oil are suitable for children from 2 years old. Please remember that essential oils do not dissolve in water, so it is necessary to dilute them before adding to the bath. Add the required number of essential oil drops to a teaspoon of carrier oil and pour the mixture into the bath.

Tip:
Myrtle reveals its wonderful properties in a sauna! Pour warm water into a metal bowl, add 25–30 drops of essential oils, and place it in the warmest corner of the sauna. The aroma of the essential oils will quickly fill the sauna and soothe your respiratory tract. We recommend trying a combination of myrtle and eucalyptus radiata or myrtle and Japanese thimbleweed (Anemone Japonica).

The scent of myrtle effectively masks body odor and repels mosquitoes, ticks, and other insects. When going outdoors, apply this oil to outer clothing, cuffs, trouser hems, hats, shoes, and similar items. Avoid direct contact with the skin.

Household use:
Bring extra cleanliness to your home! Add 10 drops of myrtle essential oil to a bucket of cold water, soak a cloth in the water, and use it to clean furniture surfaces and floors. Myrtle oil will give your home an exceptionally pleasant and cozy clean aroma. If there are fleas, moths, wasps, or similar pests at home, diffuse myrtle essential oil, clean with it, and apply a few drops to carpets or other household textiles. The aroma of myrtle is highly unpleasant to various pests and parasites.
