Peppermint essential oil is one of the most versatile and refreshing fragrances, prized for its strong, penetrating menthol scent with green and herbal undertones. This oil is extracted from peppermint grown in Bulgaria, renowned for its exceptional quality and purity. Interestingly, peppermint has a ‘temperament’— its essential oil feels cooling when warm and warming when cold. This unique sensation comes from menthol, the oil’s main active compound. Peppermint also imparts a sense of freshness and cleanliness to any environment, making it ideal for use at home, in the car, or even in the sauna (by adding water to a metal bowl and placing it in a corner). The oil helps neutralize unpleasant odors, repels insects, and when used in cosmetics, provides a pleasant freshness to the body. How to use?

Diffusion: 
Diffuse peppermint essential oil in an electric diffuser to purify and freshen the air in your home. Peppermint oil is especially effective at eliminating unwanted odors indoors! For an exceptionally fresh and clean home scent, combine peppermint with grapefruit: add 3 drops of peppermint and 5 drops of grapefruit essential oil to your diffuser. Diffuse peppermint essential oil in the car when traveling long distances — its aroma promotes focus and helps prevent drowsiness. 

Body care: 
Cool down on hot summer days by adding peppermint oil to your personal care products. You can add a few drops to a small amount of shampoo or shower gel. While washing, you’ll feel a pleasant cooling sensation, and your hair will appear beautifully shiny! Do not add the oil directly into plastic containers or large amounts of product. 

Soothe tired, swollen, or high-heel-weary feet by preparing a cooling, relaxing foot bath. Add 5 drops of peppermint essential oil into a tablespoon of carrier oil, mix with a handful of salt, and stir well into a bowl of water. Soak your feet for 10–15 minutes. 

Home use: 
Add 8–10 drops of peppermint oil to a bucket of water and use it to clean floors and other surfaces with a damp cloth. 

Peppermint oil repels insects, household pests, and spiders. Clean floors using peppermint oil, and spray areas where spiders tend to live with a 1:1 mixture of water and vinegar containing 20 drops of peppermint oil. 

Tips: 
Peppermint essential oil is especially suitable for sauna use. Pour water into a metal bowl, add 20–30 drops of essential oil, and place it in the hottest corner of the sauna to evaporate. Do not pour this mixture directly onto hot stones or other hot surfaces. 

To repel mosquitoes and ticks, apply a few drops of pure peppermint oil onto outer clothing — avoid contact with skin. Body heat will help the oil evaporate and keep insects away.

  • Do not apply pure (undiluted) essential oils directly to the skin, as they may cause severe irritation or burns. 
  • Do not ingest or take essential oils internally (unless prescribed by your doctor). 
  • Do not add pure (undiluted) essential oils directly to bath water, as this may cause serious skin irritation or burns. 
  • Never use essential oils in an inhaler. This device breaks essential oils into micro-particles that go directly into the lung alveoli. Such use can cause severe mucous membrane irritation, bronchospasm, or even chemical pneumonia. 
  • Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. 
  • For infants and children, use only age-appropriate essential oils. 
  • Use essential oils sparingly—the main principle of aromatherapy is “less is more.” 
  • Keep essential oils out of sight and reach of children. 
  • Store bottles in a dark, cool, and dry place, as exposure to environmental factors can alter or reduce the properties of essential oils.
