Radiata eucalyptus essential oil offers a touch of freshness with a gentle blend of mint, citrus, and floral notes — like a breath of clean air. Its scent is unobtrusive and light, yet highly effective, making it especially popular in everyday aromatherapy for those with sensitive respiratory systems, including children and the elderly.

The name “Radiata” comes from the unique shape of the plant’s leaves, which are elongated like rays of sunshine and inspired the botanical name itself. This particular species is known for its subtlety and gentleness, often referred to as “child’s eucalyptus” because it safely supports the most delicate moments of breathing and helps make each breathe easier.

Description

Radiata eucalyptus (Eucalyptus radiata) is one of the mildest eucalyptus species, native to eastern Australia, where these tall trees can reach up to 50 meters in the region’s humid forests. Unlike the more pungent eucalyptus globulus, the radiata variety is known for its especially gentle scent — a refreshing blend of mint, citrus, and soft floral notes. For this reason, the oil is often referred to as “mild” or “baby” eucalyptus.

The essential oil is obtained through steam distillation of the tree’s elongated, ray-like leaves — hence the Latin name radiata. Depending on the moisture content and maturity of the leaves, it takes approximately 50–100 kg of fresh foliage to produce one kilogram of essential oil.

With its pleasant aroma and gentle character, Radiata eucalyptus essential oil is a favourite among those seeking a balance of freshness, safety, and efficacy. Thanks to its mildness, it is especially appreciated in households where aromatherapy is a part of daily breathing rituals.

How to use?

Diffusion:
In a diffuser, this essential oil pairs beautifully with rosewood, thyme, tea tree, lemon, grapefruit, rosemary, pine, and peppermint essential oils.
During the day, diffuse 6–8 drops of essential oil; at night, use 3–4 drops in the diffuser.

For the body:
Make an aromatherapeutic hand soap! Add 20 drops of pure eucalyptus essential oil to 200 ml of unscented liquid soap and shake the dispenser well to evenly distribute the essential oil throughout the soap base.

Prepare an aromatherapeutic bath with eucalyptus essential oil. This offers double pleasure and benefit, as essential oils work both through inhalation and skin absorption in the bath. Attention! Never add pure essential oil directly into the bath! Instead, add the desired number of essential oil drops into a teaspoon of carrier oil and then pour the mixture into the bath.

Home care:
Bring extra cleanliness and a wonderful aroma to your home! Clean surfaces with a mixture of water and eucalyptus oil. Add 6–10 drops of pure eucalyptus essential oil to a bucket of water you plan to use for cleaning floors and other surfaces, dampen a cloth, and wipe the surfaces.

Place one drop of pure, undiluted eucalyptus essential oil on a tissue, a soft toy, or the corner of a pillow — it’s a great way to enjoy the therapeutic properties of eucalyptus oil.

Most importantly, avoid direct contact with the skin.

Recommended number of drops by age:

  • 6–12 months old babies — 2–3 drops of essential oil
  • 12–36 months old toddlers — 3–4 drops of essential oil
  • 3–7 years old children — 3–5 drops of essential oil
  • 7–12 years old children — 4–6 drops of essential oil
  • 12+ years old teenagers and adults — 5–10 drops of essential oil
Warnings
  • Do not apply pure (undiluted) essential oils directly to the skin, as they may cause severe irritation or burns.
  • Do not ingest or take essential oils internally (unless prescribed by your doctor).
  • Do not add pure (undiluted) essential oils directly to bath water, as this may cause serious skin irritation or burns.
  • Never use essential oils in an inhaler. This device breaks essential oils into micro-particles that go directly into the lung alveoli. Such use can cause severe mucous membrane irritation, bronchospasm, or even chemical pneumonia.
  • Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.
  • For infants and children, use only age-appropriate essential oils.
  • Use essential oils sparingly—the main principle of aromatherapy is “less is more.”
  • Keep essential oils out of sight and reach of children.
  • Store bottles in a dark, cool, and dry place, as exposure to environmental factors can alter or reduce the properties of essential oils.
